Kerry Ecological Services Ireland - Appropriate Assessment

Kerry Ecological Services is run by Ciaran Ryan (B.Sc. Analytical Science; M. Sc. Environmental Science; member of the Institute of Environmental and Ecological Management).
He has worked in the ecological field since 1993, undertaking contracts spanning:

Survey of a range of Natura 2000 sites i.e. Natural Heritage Areas (NHAs), Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and Special Protection Areas (SPAs).
Production of Conservation/Management Plans for a range of Natura 2000 sites.
Facilitating public consultation of Natura 2000 sites, including Killarney National Park.
Production of official appeals on SAC/SPA designation.
Production of Agri-Environmental plans (e.g. REPS/AEOS/GLAS).
Assessment of habitats and overgrazing on commonage land (Commonage Framework Plans).
Production of Native Woodland Scheme plans.
Ecological Impact Assessment (EcA) for windfarm sites.
Appropriate Assessment / Natura Impact Assessment / Ecological Screening Statements of various developments.
Production of ecological reports (EcA) on OPW and County Council flood relief measures.

Kerry Ecological Services have the expertise to undertake Ecological Surveys, Ecological Reports, Ecological Screening / Impact Assessments (Statements) and Appropriate Assessments on the vast majority of Irish habitats. Contracts have been successfully completed for National Parks and Wildlife Service, Office of Public Works, Local Authorities, energy companies, engineers, architects and property development companies.

Ciaran Ryan has also devised and hosted an Environmental Course for secondary school Transition year, as well as talks on Irish habitats and species. He was chairman of the Dublin branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust for 5 years, organising regular talks and outings, as well as being active in a number of other environmental groups.
